Mineola High School’s Drama Department and Thespian Troupe 276 present The Pajama Game on March 23 and 24. A union strike at a pajama factory generates plenty of steam heat in this toe-tapping comedic love story. The Pajama Game was awarded the 1955 TONY for Best Musical and over half a century later claimed the award for Best Revival of a Musical - proving the story is truly timeless. With an energetic score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (Damn Yankees), The Pajama Game is brimming with songs and dances that have become musical theatre standards, including "Steam Heat" and "Hernando's Hideaway". Conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory are anything but peaceful, as sparks fly between new superintendent Sid Sorokin (Jake Lenze) and Babe Williams (Sarah Harty), leader of the union grievance committee. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 ½ cent pay increase, setting off not only a conflict between management and labor, but a battle of the sexes as well. Katrine Gulinao also stars as Gladys, the boss’s vivacious secretary and Nathan Bischoff as Hines, a time-study man and Gladys’ eternally jealous boyfriend. Joining them are Robert Shevlin as Mr. Hasler, the cantankerous owner of the SleepTite Pajama Factory, Sarah Carbain as Mabel, the spunky secretary, and Miguel Velasquez as Prez, the Union president and resident lothario. Don’t miss out on this wonderful show from the Golden Age of Broadway! Performances will be Friday, March 23 at 7:30 PM and Saturday, March 24 at 2 PM and 7:30 PM. Tickets are available for $10 (adults) and $5 (students and seniors) on our website at http://www.mineoladrama.com.
