​Participation in performing ensembles gives students the opportunity to perform in our concerts.  Concert attendance is mandatory for all students in Band, Orchestra, and Chorus.  Students in grades 4-12 will participate in at least two concerts per year and grade 3 will have one concert in June.  Additional performance events include Choral Night, String Night, Jazz night.  Some groups are asked to participate in local events.  Teachers will communicate with students and families as these events arise.

Concert Etiquette:
Our young musicians work very hard to present in a professional way.  We ask the following of our audience members:

• No recording of concerts.  Your phone or iPad or camera is distracting to everyone around you.  All of our school concerts are recorded on high quality equipment and can be found at www.youtube.com/mhsfinearts 
• Do not shout out or wave to performers at any time (including walking up to/off of the stage) this creates safety problems, and distracts our performers from doing their best.
• Please stay until the concert is over.  If you must leave, please wait until a group is finished performing, or at least until the song is over and the audience is applauding.
• Hold your applause until the conductor puts his/her arms down. (During the Star Spangled Banner, please wait until the anthem is completed)

Concert Attire:
Concerts are Formal Events.  Students learn the importance of professionalism and presentation skills.  As such, we require students to dress professionally.  
Students in grades 3-4 are encouraged to dress nice, or black on the bottom and white on the top
Students in grades 5-7 wear a white top and black bottom, black dress shoes/socks
Students in grades 8-12 dress in all black, black dress shoes/socks.
